ELS ANNUAL CONVENTION
Gloria Dei is participating in the Evangelical Lutheran Synod's annual convention, in Mankato, MN, June 20 to June 24. This is our Synod's 93rd convention. One of the highlights of the convention is the "essay," this year presented by The Rev. Robert Harting, under the theme, "Baptized Into Christ." Our lay delegates this year are Doran Bethke and Jim Mayer. We thank them for serving us in this capacity and we look forward to their report later in the year.

BAPTISM
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism was given to Julia Rose Louks, born May 1, to Brian and Jennifer Louks. Baptism works the forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe, just as the Words and Promises of God declare. May our Lord's blessings rest upon Julia and her family!

WELCOME!

We are happy to have you “visiting” Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, in Saginaw, MI.  You will find our congregation friendly and faithful, friendly to all weary souls and faithful to our Savior and His Word.  We believe you will find a warm and caring welcome in our midst.  If you are searching for a church home, we’d like to share our Christian fellowship with you and your family.  Please, accept the invitation to browse throughout our church page or call the church office for a visit with our pastor.

HISTORY:

Gloria Dei was formed in May of 1985, by 170 souls who had left an ALC congregation in Saginaw, MI, seeking to continue in the old doctrine and practices of the historic Lutheran Church. These faithful members formed an independent Lutheran congregation.  Soon a pastor was called.  Pastor J.K. Smith accepted the Call to become the congregation’s first regular pastor.   The congregation is currently served by Pastor Homer Mosley, Jr.

The congregation met in various places, including Michigan Lutheran Seminary, until 1990, when we acquired eight acres of ground and built at the present location.  The church is located in Saginaw Township, which comprises the western portion of the greater Saginaw metropolitan area.

In 1989 Gloria Dei joined the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, headquartered in Mankato, MN.  It is part of a regional district, Circuit #3, which encompasses Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.  The pastors of Circuit #3 meet regularly for study and encouragement, at Holy Scripture Lutheran Church, Midland, MI.  Other groups of men and women meet throughout the year in different settings to grow in their service to the Lord and in their appreciation of the Gospel.  The blessings of this larger, orthodox fellowship help in facilitating the ministry of the congregation in its outreach, nurture, and confessional practices.

WE BELIEVE, TEACH AND CONFESS:

The people who formed Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, have done so because they believe, with other confessional Lutherans, that the Bible is truly the Word of God, that it is without error and infallible in all matters, just as the historic Lutheran Church has always believed, taught, and confessed.

In God’s Word we find comfort, assurance, and strength, knowing that God, for Jesus’ sake, forgives all our sins, gives us eternal life, and salvation.  Christ, then, is the central message of God’s love for sinners and the heart of our proclamation and ministry.  The congregation regularly gathers to use the Gospel in the Word and in the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  As confessional Lutherans we stand on the three great principles of the Reformation: Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, and Faith Alone.

We are anxious to share this Good News and the joy and peace it brings with others.  Please, visit the Web Site of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod for a more detailed presentation of the beautiful doctrines which adorn our Church or call on our pastor.
